But last year’s high fuel prices were a wake-up call for Rebecca.

  1. Jodi says:

A sobering and timely film. It would be good if it were widely shown across society, to politicians – especially advocates of a ‘Big Society’ – and school children, whose future lies in our hands but who will one day be taking the reins, company chairpersons & their Chief Executive Officers and town and country planners, and more. The more dramatic impacts foretold for civilisation may not be conspicuous to all for some years but as the solutions are likely to take many years, actions are needed now.
I hope Ms Hosking will make a second film showing examples of next steps and what can be done on a range of fronts.
On our home front we recently bought a new home close enough to a town to cycle there in 20 minutes and so not need a car, yet with a garden big enough to plant a range of fruit trees and bushes, 27 planted so far, with the aim of reduced food miles and fresher fruit. Meanwhile we buy local food as much as possible. We are studying permaculture as a guide to next steps. We increased the home insulation, and added solar hot water and photovoltaic panels, which should all reduce our energy use. Many will not be in a position to do half of these things, so some of us had best do more.
