Each and every smart farmer recognizes there’s a great peril facing them. Lots of them make-believe that they’ll be protected from it or they make an attempt to transfer the responsibility for doing something regarding it to almost everybody else.

You know the threat I’m referring to, it’s the result of not planning today for the tomorrow you and your family want.

This is why you are searching the Internet for answers right now isn’t it?

Don Jonovic and I authored Passing Down The Farm all those yrs ago to help get the issue out into the open, to place the actual duty for your success or failure exactly where it belongs, on your lap.

When we put together this new farm succession toolkit, which includes a detailed step by step by step guide to help you get from where you stand at this time to where you would like the family along with the farm to be down the road, we did it for you and your life insurance agent.

Hundreds and hundreds of you have ınformed us that their particular farm insurance agent was basically the only real adviser they have who has been of sincere non-biased non ego based assistance in this process.

Additionally you recognize, no matter whether you will admit it or not, that you will be held responsible for the success or failure of that long-term planning, so it is sensible that you find a solution. Quit waiting until “the time is right” or what ever explanation you use to keep from taking action today.

You already know from observation, seeing what has happened to your neighbors along with association associates, that there’s a strong relationship between long-term succession planning and the probability of your family preserving the success everyone has sacrificed so much to achieve.

Does it make sense to take your life developing a successful business but fail to invest a few moments and a couple of dollars in preparing its organized continuation when you depart. And you’ll be leaving won’t you, one way or another ultimately, make no mistake about it.

You may well be convinced that getting started with your farm’s succession planning is not pressing. Surly it can wait for a week, or a month, or possibly one more year or so, can’t it?

Never take it for granted you will continue to be in control then. You know that it is far from unusual to know about a farmer about your age or younger that passed away suddenly.

Every month anytime you receive your association’s journal don’t you notice the name of a fellow member who has died which causes you to realize how young they were and how great they looked and in such apparent good health.

And do not even think about your graduation class. Every year more and more people are on the deceased list than the previous time you checked and they’re your age, people just like you.

Are the statistics for you or against you?

Your farm insurance agent can tell you about statistics, even though we all claim they don’t really mean anything at all unless you are one of the unlucky ones, but you really should ask them regardless. Based on how old you are, do you know the chances that you’ll pass away prior to retirement? Exactly how likely is it that you will be disabled during that time?” And if you have partners, what does that do to the chances?

Only when you’re conscious of the risks you face can someone verify whether or not your farm will endure if you don’t.

When you do not plan plus take the steps required of any wise businessperson, you lose control to the fates. Then in the event you or one or more of your partners is forced out on account of death or disability there will probably be a serious crisis for personal not to mention business survival.

With regards to finding the right individual to assist you with the farm succession process, from the earliest stage through to conclusion, your farm insurance professionals are usually uniquely skilled.

Their area of expertise is helping you take into account the people and business implications that effect you. Their solutions can be adapted to operate hand in glove with the advice of your various other professional advisors to suit your desires.

Think about it, hasn’t your farm insurance professional already put in a lot of time talking with you and your family members about the significance of looking down the road five, ten, 15, or more years into your future?

Their purpose is to make clear the significance of taking action right now to protect what’s already been created.

The most significant miscalculation you can make is not hearing them, and continuing to treat the need for farm succession planning lightly.

When you make better decisions you get better results. Successful farm strategic planning is the result of continuously making better, more informed decisions. The best decisions are typically those made in collaboration with people whose success we respect and whose opinions we trust. When we harness to power of our peers we make better strategic planning decisions 100% of the time.

Every last savvy farmer is aware that there’s a massive menace facing them. Many of them imagine that they’re going to be safe from it or they try and shift the accountability for doing something regarding it to more or less everybody else.

You are aware of the threat I’m talking about, it’s the consequence of not planning now for the tomorrow you want.

This is exactly why you’re reading this isn’t it?

Don and I wrote Passing Down The Farm all those years ago to help get the issue out into the open, to place the actual duty for your success or failure the place where it belongs, on your lap.

When we produced the farm succession toolkit, with a comprehensive step by step by step map to get you from where you stand at this instant to the spot where you want the family and also the farm to be in the future, we did it for you and your life insurance representative.

Hundreds and hundreds of you have imparted to us that their farm insurance professional turned out to be the only real adviser they’ve got who had been of true non-biased non ego focused help in this process.

You also realize, no matter whether you will be honest or not, that you will be held a major contributor to the failure or success of the farm’s succession planning, and so it’s a good idea that you find a solution. Quit holding back until “the time is right” or whatever excuse you’re using to keep from doing so.

You no doubt know through experience, watching what is happening to your others who live nearby and your fellow association associates, that there is a cause and effect connection between long term succession planning and the likelihood of your family keeping the achievements everybody has sacrificed to achieve.

Can it possibly make sense to spend your lifetime creating a successful business organization yet fail to invest a few weeks and a couple of dollars in arranging its orderly continuation once you depart. And you’ll be leaving won’t you, one way or another eventually, make no mistake about it.

You may well be convinced that getting started with the farm’s succession planning is just not immediate. Certainly it can wait for a week, or a month, or maybe another year, can’t it?

You shouldn’t take it as a given that you’re going to continue to be in control then. You know it is not unusual to know about a farmer about your age or much younger that passed away suddenly.

Every month as soon as you receive your association’s newspaper don’t you notice the name of someone who has passed away that makes you consider just how young they were and how great they appeared as well as in such apparent good health.

And do not think about your high school class. Annually more and more people are on the deceased list than the previous time you checked and they are generally your age, folks just like you.

Are the statistics for you or against you?

Your farm insurance agent can tell you about statistics, though we all declare they do not signify anything unless of course we are among the ill-fated ones, but you should ask them regardless. Based on your age, do you know the likelihood that you’re going to die before retirement? Exactly how likely is it you will be disabled during that time?” And also when you have partners, precisely what does that do to the chances?

Only when you know the potential for loss you face can you really establish whether your farm can survive if you don’t.

Any time you are unable to plan plus take the steps needed of any wise company owner, you lose control to the fates. Then should you or one or more of your partners is forced out because of death or disability there can be a very real situation for personal not to mention business survival.

When it comes to determining the right man or woman to assist you with the farm succession process, from the very first phase right through to the end, your farm insurance agents are uniquely qualified.

Their area of expertise is helping you think about the human and business implications that impact you. Their answers can be personalized to operate hand in glove with the recommendations of your additional professional advisors to suit your requirements.

Think about it, hasn’t your farm insurance professional already spent hours and hours communicating with you and your family members about the importance of looking down the road 5, 10, 15, or more years in the future?

Their role is to make clear the importance of acting now to defend what’s already been created.

The biggest miscalculation you can make is not paying attention to them, and continuing to treat the requirement of farm succession planning lightly.

Highly effective farmers know that management implies a lot more than crop rotation methods, machinery repairs and maintenance schedules, in addition to making the project itineraries.

Which entails managing tactically for the long term and watching out for the rocks down the middle of the street right now.

In the past farmers, each and every successful company owner for that matter, has learned management approaches from the leaders and managers who’ve been here a long time and are responsible for the positive results which got them to where they are at this moment.

Going forward, although operational managing will develop just as like it always has based on the guidelines belonging to the effective among us, strategic planning along with management for succession call for a brand-new perspective.

Ideas needed to tactically manage the farm for succession to another generation in 1961 is different from what exactly will undoubtedly be required in 2025.

Remember, farm management for succession and ownership transition are not the same thing.

Normally from my past experiences only some of the farmers children prefer to continue on the farm, to run it and own it in the next generation.

At the same time, the equal treatment of all can and perhaps should mean that the equity that make up the farm are left to all of the children, irrespective of whether they are involved in the farm organization.

It can also be possible that some or all of the management could be left in the hands of crucial employees as opposed to family.

Either way the farm owner must learn to hand over management decision making as successfully like they are at delegating the every day assignments. Normally it takes many years to coach the successor management team to the point where the members of the older generation will feel at ease enough to be able to turn over the day-to-day operations.

Although some farmers find letting go of power demanding for vanity reasons, for the majority it is the concern that emanates from being forced to turn over that which they have worked an eternity to create, to individuals they are not sufficiently confident in. They are simply concerned the bound to happen mistakes will destroy the farm and their personal financial situation along with it.

Regrettably farmers all too often concentrate on the ownership transition plus estate planning choices regarding the transferring of the farm to another generation, while dismissing management development for succession issues.

They do noting about the required succession planning, knowing that since they’re not going to feel safe turning over ownership until their successors are ready to run the place they aren’t likely to turn anything over to them anyway..

But yet the are not doing anything to extend the management element of the succession planning process so the people active on the farm will be capable of ever being prepared to take over.

When the future leader of the farm business is to have a chance to realize his or her potential, steps need to be taken starting now to assure that they have the skill sets, the support of the employees and other family members.

Normally, a step by step transfer of roles and responsibilities gives the successor time to mature into their new position and allows the senior generation farm owner plenty of time to get used to their decreasing position.

The most successful farm management successions are the ones where sufficient lead-time provides for a smooth transition.

Many farm businesses are also relying on a couple of employees who are critical to the success of the business.

These key employees are often required to manage things or perhaps aid in the management of the farm through the transition period.

This could be imperative to the farm’s survival when there are young children, kids not prepared to take on the duties of management, due to the untimely death of the farm owner, for example.

Whenever there are employees who may very well be called on to play an integral role in the farm’s succession, the plans adapted should address strategies to assure that these key employees will continue to be with the farm upon the death, disability or retirement of the owner.

When it comes to your farm’s management succession, because your situation and family dynamics are unique, no one size fits all approach will work for you. If I was going to provide real and lasting value I had to create a process that was infinitely customizable – for each situation. By providing you with the right questions – those that uncover what’s important, for you to ask your family members, your employees, and your advisors.
Click here to find out how this is possible!

Whenever you work with people, conflict is inevitable.

The tension created by daily conflict either results in wasted time, decreased productivity, and poor decisions or the sort of internal competition that pushes each individual to do their best, if for no other reason that convince their coworkers that they can do it.

This inevitable conflict is either destructive or creative.

The destructive conflict is toxic to relationships and hurts people and organizations and this is the one that needs managing.

In my experience creative conflict seems to be cultural in nature.

It’s how the people themselves react and address each other and the situations they face together.

Profitable farmers are aware that management stands for a lot more than crop rotation tactics, machinery maintenance timetables, plus putting together the work agendas.

It ındicates managing logically for the long run while watching out for the holes in the middle of the path right now.

In the past farmers, every successful businessman for that matter, has discovered management practices from the leaders and managers who have been there a while and had been a major contributor to the successes which got them to where they are currently.

Going forward, though operational administration will develop just as as it has based on the best practices from the highly effective in our midst, strategic planning plus management for succession demand brand new fresh point of view.

The concepts required to strategically oversee the farm for succession to another generation in 1961 differs from what exactly is going to be required in 2025.

Remember, farm management for succession and ownership transition are not the same thing.

Typically in my past experiences only a few of the farmers kids prefer to continue on the farm, to operate it and own it in the next generation.

Nevertheless, the equal treatment of all can and perhaps should mean that the wealth that make up the farm are left to each of the kids, irrespective of whether or not they take part in the farm business.

Also, it is entirely possible that some or all of the management could possibly be left to crucial employees instead of family.

In any event the farm owner needs to quickly learn how to turn over management decision making as successfully as they are in assigning the routine responsibilities. Usually it takes years to train the successor management team until the members in the older generation will feel safe enough to give up the day-to-day operations.

Even though some farmers find giving up control demanding for pride reasons, for many it is the worry that arises from having to turn over that which they have worked for years and years to build, to people they aren’t completely confident in. They’re concerned the unavoidable mistakes will wreck the farm and their personal finances along with it.

The sad thing is farmers too often concentrate on the ownership changeover as well as estate planning matters regarding the transferring of the farm to the next generation, while dismissing management development for succession issues.

They do noting about the required succession planning, understanding that since they will not feel at ease turning over ownership until their successors are ready to run the place they aren’t going to turn anything over to them anyway..

And yet the are not doing anything to extend the management component of the succession planning process so the people active on the farm will be capable of ever being prepared to take over.

When the future leader of your farm business is to get a chance to realize his or her potential, steps must be taken starting now in order to guarantee they have the abilities, the support of the employees and other family members.

Ordinarily, a gradual transfer of functions and responsibilities gives the successor a chance to evolve into their new position and allows the senior generation farm owner plenty of time to get used to their diminishing position.

The most successful farm management successions are those where sufficient lead-time permits a smooth transition.

Many farm companies are also dependent on a handful of employees that are critical to the success of the business.

These key employees are often needed to manage things or possibly help out with the management of the farm all through the transition period.

This is vital to the farm’s survival when there are young children, kids not prepared to take on the requirements of management, a result of the untimely death of the farm owner, for example.

When there are employees who may very well be called on to play a key role in the farm’s succession, the plans adapted should address ways to ensure that these key employees will continue with the farm upon the death, disability or retirement of the owner.
